The Guilford Center for Children (GCC) Early Childhood Program, which focused on the theme of kindness for the month of May, set up a book donation box and undertook a classroom challenge to collect books to donate to the Guilford Free Library. The goal was for each of the 17 children to bring in one book they could give away.

In one week, the students had collected more than 80 books from their home bookshelves, and on May 31, kids pulled two wagons filled with a grand total of 177 books down the road to the library. Library staff greeted the preschoolers with applause.

“My class is full of 17 of the most caring and warm hearted 4 and 5 year olds any one could meet,” said GCC Early Childhood Program head teacher Valerie Lewis. “I am truly grateful to have a classroom filled with such extraordinary children who genuinely care for not only each other endlessly but care about spreading kindness and impacting the community they live in.”
